He has an engineering background and has gained strong business development and project management skills by working with both large corporates and small businesses. He has set up and built three companies – the first business in engineering services to the Oil sector, the second in international project development in the Utility sector and the latest in business advisory services.
When Roy was Regional Director for Asia for ESB, an electricity utility company, based in Kuala Lumpur, he was developing their position in the Asian market and negotiating and managing contracts. He started a company developing power stations in the developing markets in 1994. This involved developing relationships with a number of Scottish energy related companies such as Wood Group, Aggreko, Rolls-Royce and Balfour Kilpatrick. He developed projects in Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and the Philippines through building relationships with government and local businesses as well as strategic relationships with large international utilities.
Roy also has experience with the Scottish Development Agency, where he led their Technology Transfer division into Europe and worked with many businesses across a wide range of sectors helping them to establish business relationships in Europe.

May 2004 – March 2018 Partner with international Coaching Organisation Shirlaws – Roy established the Scottish arm in 2004. Developed the business by creating referral relationships with other professional practises. Within 3 years had grown the business to include 6 coaches operating in Scotland. Then recruited and trained over 10 coaches and worked with over 100 clients.
In Roy’s current role in Business Coaching and consultancy, accomplishment include:
• Formed and built a business coaching business when the concept was virtually unheard of.
• Commercially helped to develop over 100 business in Scotland through Business Coaching and consulting interventions
• Changed, for the better, the lives of over 100 business owners and thousands of their staff
• Developed major programmes with Clydesdale Bank, Clyde Blowers, HSBC on SME engagement and talent management.
Roy has an honours degree from Glasgow University and an MBA from Strathclyde Graduate Business School.
